Laura Williams

San Francisco, California

Laura Williams, The Palm Tree, 11 x 14" oil

As a landscape painter en plein air I find that being outside observing the ever-changing dance of light is to be true witness to the face of God. The experience of painting outdoors is awe-inspiring and, at times, humbling. My goal is to capture this experience in my art. Upon discovering the California Impressionists, I became impassioned with their method of painting. Combining the contemplation of nature, the beauty of sun and wind with the pleasure and challenge of capturing a moment in time are the vehicles for my painting. My studies include a BFA with honors from the University of Massachusetts, MFA in illustration and design from the Academy of Art College, private workshop with Ovanes Berberian, Michael Lynch, Van Waldron, John Budicin, Randy Sexton, Ken Auster and Bob Gerbracht. I recently had a one-person show on Cape Cod and had the honor of being juried into many competitions including: MarinScapes, Artisans Gallery Landscape Exhibition, Napa Valley Museum Plein Air Biennial, Sonoma Museum, and Sonoma Plein Air 2003. I took second place at the Indian Valley Artists Landscape Show, Best of Show at Artisans in Mill Valley and Jurors Award from Susan Hillhouse at the Sanchez Art Center. Currently I am showing at the William Lester Gallery, Point Reyes; Studio Gallery, San Francisco; John Natsoulas Gallery, Davis; Sanchez Art Center, Pacifica; Pacific Grove Art Center, Pacific Grove; and Craftsmen's Home, Berkeley, California.
