"All of my paintings are done from either a direct location study, or my own reference," the artist writes. "I like ordinary things observed carefully and portrayed unusually. My favorite subjects are water, air, light and their transformation throughout the day."

Lana Rak was educated in the Republican School of Fine Arts, Kiev, Ukraine; at Langara College, Vancouver, B.C.; and at the Academy of Arts University in San Francisco.  She has won numerous awards and prizes, including a 2003 scholarship at the American Society of Portrait Artists.  Her work is in many private collections and her work is shown in galleries in Sausolito, Palo Alto, and San Louis Obispo.
