Carol Preble-Miles

Chico, California

Carol Preble-Miles, Antelope Creek, 22 x 18" watercolor

I am a native northern Californian and love to paint the landscapes, waterways, and places where I grew up.

I often paint in "plein air," occasionally packing my gear a mile or so to find a particular spot that I've heard about, just so I can paint and photograph it for reference later. This particular kind of outing is my favorite thing to do. I'm out in the fresh air, in beautiful natural surroundings, completely immersed in my subject matter--I see, smell, taste, hear, and feel the place that I'm in.

My goal as I paint is to do my best to put you in that same place so that you can see and feel at least some of my experience. I do not think of my paintings as realistic, but rather, representational.

I have been juried into many regional and national shows, the most recent being the 2003 North Valley Art League's 11th Annual National Juried Art Show. In 2002, I won an Award of Merit in NVAL's National Juried Show for my "Antelope Creek," depicted above, and was chosen for a (COBA) Chico's Open Board Art display. My work may be seen at the Sally Dimas Art Gallery in Chico.
