Valerie Payne received her BFA in painting from Chico State University. She says of her art: "My goal is to engage the viewer. I want to make an intimate connection with my audience. Watercolor offers me the widest range of posibilities for what I want to express, from the traditional to the abstract. I often experiment with collage and have recently started working in pastel and oil. With every new challenge comes growth and discovery. I want my work to speak of the passion I have for painting."

Payne’s art has won many awards, including the Chico Annie's "Advancement of the Arts" Award.
