June Carey

Chico, California

June Carey , Picket Fence , 6 x 8 " oil

"A large part of what drives me to paint," June Carey says, "is a passion to create a place I want to be."

And for the past 25 years, that burning passion has been kindled by the breathtaking landscape of Northern California. Maryland-born artist June Carey has often placed among the Top 100 artists in the famed annual national Arts for the Parks exhibition with her exquisite portrayals of upper California's golden hills, pristine coastline, and fabled wine country.

June Carey's husband, historical maritime artist David Thimgan, encouraged her to paint seascapes as well, and her consequent success has earned her membership in the American Society of Marine Artists. Although attracted by the challenges of capturing an ever-changing sea, June Carey's first love is the nurtured beauty of the earth.

"I'm deeply affected by terrain that flourishes under human care," says June Carey, "where cultivation results in harmony between humanity and the land."
