Signs of the Zodiac

I remember putting a nickel into a "Horoscope" dispenser when I was a young child. That nickel gave me a tiny piece of tightly rolled up paper that told me my "future". I don't remember what it said, but that was my first exposure to astrology. I began to use symbols in some of my earliest paintings. When designing Christmas cards, I consulted books on Christian symbols to convey messages. About fifteen years ago, while rummaging through some materials, I ran across the symbols used for the signs of the zodiac. This was the beginning of an idea to paint a series on the zodiac. I finally resolved to start the series after I had seen photographs of my father as a very young man, posing next to the huge permanent stage curtain in Macky Auditorium on the University of Colorado campus. At the top of this curtain were his paintings of his original designs for the signs of the zodiac. My primary goal in this Zodiac series was to combine, or merge, each symbol with the image that went with it. But the more research I did, the more I became interested in the other symbols and characteristics that are associated with each sign, some of which I have also included in the paintings. It has been an exciting and rewarding experience for me. In one sense it is so very different than the southwest series I have been working on for the last few years-- although the power of the sun figures prominently in both series. Some paintings from the Southwest series have been included in the gallery for the purpose of comparison

Ann Pierce incorporated the above symbols, shown above in order beginning from Aries and ending with Pisces, in each of her paintings.  The originals of these paintings are available only as a set and are appropriate for a museum setting.  Giclée prints in various sizes are available in the gallery, framed or unframed, matted or unmatted.  Entire sets, greeting cards, and posters are also available.
