Artist's Statement

Above all I am a colorist.  The tropical light of the Bahamas, where I painted over many years, has inspired many works in this show.  Some of my heroes in art include the German Expressionist Nolde, the French Expressionist Rouault, and that Dutch master of color and dramatic brushwork Vincent Van Gogh.  While I learned much about color theory during my study at the San Francisco Art Institute and at CSUC, I paint instinctively, striving for the maximum impact from color relationships.
