You are invited!

An exhibition mounted by Avenue 9 Gallery from March 24 to April 30, 2006.

Press Release
"Figures x 2"

Painter Michael Diven and sculptor Alan Carrier create personal figurative visions that blend abstraction with realism. Michael Diven’s recent paintings explore deep human feelings through the use of ambiguous body language that allows viewers to interpret works in personal ways. Diven says: "In Rain, a woman sits hunched over either protecting herself or enjoying the rain which seems to falling only on her." Diven, a Bay area artist who moved to Paradise and then Chico five years ago, holds an MFA degree from the San Francisco Art Institute.

Alan Carrier rivets, bolts, and glues found objects as ‘body parts’ to create figurative constructions. "My love of art, antiques and humor has resulted in the birth of a family of amusing robotic beings, creatures and critters (artdroids). Each has its imagined history and mysteries." Carrier, Director of the Coyote Gallery, Butte College, has had a distinguished career as a sculptor, photographer and curator. He received his MFA degree from Concordia University.

The Diven and Carrier exhibition "Figures x 2" runs at Avenue 9 Gallery, March 24-April 30 with a March 24 opening reception from 5-8pm.

180 East 9th Avenue, Chico. Reg. Hrs. W-Sun. noon-4pm. 879-1821.
