COMMUNITY DEMONSTRATIONS, WORKSHOPS, POETRY

Do you crochet, knit, quilt, make batiks, create jewelry, weave, or do you simply love fiber arts and want to know more about their techniques?  Many of the exhibition artists are offering informal demonstrations of their art form.  What a great way to 'beat the heat,' meet old friends and make new ones, and get a strong dose of inspiration, too!

Read on for demonstrations by fiber artists and other events, a community resource offered by our gallery. Free except where noted!

July 29, Sat., 1-3 pm, Sheryl Cummings, "Crocheting Flowers."  Cummings adds sculptural effects and whimsy to her hats with such flowers.

July 30, Sun., 2-4 pm, Fiber Artists in Conversation.

Aug. 11, Fri., 6-8 pm, "A Midsummer Night's Read," poetry by Bob Garner & friends. Feel free to bring your knitting, crocheting, quilting, etc., and create as you listen.

Aug. 15, Tue., 1-4 pm, Margaret Allen, "Cut and Paste: An Approach to Pattern Design for Fabric Sculpture."  Allen banishes all surface design fears.

Aug. 19, Sat., 2-4 pm, Sandy Fisher, "Loom Weaving."  Fisher's woven wares sell all over the country.  She's bringing one of her looms!

Sept. 16, Sat., 2-4 pm, Chris Jennings, "Traditional Hot Wax Batik." Jennings is a local legend for her virtuoso hangable and wearable batiks and she will show us how it's done.

Sept. 17, Sun., 2-4 pm, Enyer& Kate Buroz, "Crochet and Jewelry." Enyer and Kate combine wood, ceramics, shells, and metal with fibers.
