Cosmic Themes in Ceramic Ancestor Figures
If you know where you’re coming from, you know where you’re standing, and you know where you’re going. In the process of using my thoughts and hands to create functional and decorative artifacts, I became increasingly attracted to ancient ceramics and wanted to pay homage to the hands of past pot makers. Ceramics have given us more information about our human history than any other art form. As I studied this heritage, I felt more drawn to the glorious past than to an elusive future. I identified with values I discerned in ancient civilizations, including a belief in a supernatural realm, the importance of fertility, and a search for harmony in life.
I worked on the Ancestor Figures in a sensitive trance, as if I were a modern day "Shaman." Tribute to the Past
For its knowledge and wisdom
For its underground light and message
Because without a past there will be no future.

Enyer Buroz was born in Venezuela and now lives with his family in Chico, California, where he is enrolled in an art program at Butte College. Enyer has been a practicioner of art all his life. He also makes fiber art and many of his pieces include crocheted or other kinds of piece work elements in a variety of fibers.
