Artist's Statement

WINDER BAKER

I was born with a sewing needle implanted between my fingers.  At age 38, I watched a French docudrama called Ramparts of Clay which brought out the cultural importance of textile arts in Tunisia. The film gave me insight into profound meanings that could be communicated through textile arts. I sought the company of others with needles and joined my efforts with theirs. Inhabiting and communing with needles and cloth explains to me the human terrain, its politics and appetites.
